Account terms

  • Minimum deposit: $100 for high yield savings and $1,500 for a CD. CDs can hold up to $1 million.
  • Interest: compounds daily and is credited monthly on CDs.
  • Early withdrawal penalty: 90 days of simple interest on CDs under 12 months, 180 days on 12 months to 3 years and 365 days on 4 years and up. The penalty can reduce your principal.
  • At maturity: CDs renew automatically at the base rate then in effect, with a 10 day grace period to make changes.
  • Products: high yield savings, CDs and IRA versions of both. Bread Savings does not offer a checking account.

What to watch for

  • Steep long term penalties. Breaking a $10,000, 5 year CD at 4.70% costs about $470 in interest.
  • The $1,500 CD minimum. Barclays has no minimum and Marcus needs $500.
  • No checking. You move money by transfer from another bank.
  • Rates change. Bread changed its CD rates several times in October 2026; your rate is fixed only once you open and fund the CD.

Our verdict

Bread Savings is legitimate: its accounts are held at an FDIC insured bank owned by a publicly traded company. Its CDs pay some of the best rates we track, especially on 18 months, and its savings rate is solid. The trade offs are the $1,500 CD minimum, penalties that can cut into principal and no checking account. Read our full Bread Savings CD review.
