Our verdict

Happen Bank LevelUp Savings is one of the highest rated accounts in our ranking. It pays 4.20% APY on your whole balance in any month you deposit at least $250, and a standard 3.00% APY if you do not. That fallback rate is higher than the only rate many savings accounts pay.

It also has no minimum, no monthly fee and a free ATM card, which is rare for an online savings account. The one thing to plan for is the monthly $250 deposit. An automatic transfer from your checking account handles it.

How the rate works

SituationAPY
At least $250 deposited during the evaluation period4.20%
Less than $250 deposited3.00%

Both rates were accurate as of Oct 23, 2026, are variable, and apply to the full balance with no balance cap. Interest, bonuses, credits and refunds do not count toward the $250. New accounts start on the LevelUp rate.

What $10,000 earns: about $420 in a year if you meet the monthly rule every month, or about $300 at the standard rate.

Fees and minimums

There is no minimum opening deposit, no minimum balance and no monthly fee.

Access to your money

LevelUp Savings comes with a free ATM card. It works fee free at MoneyPass and SUM ATMs, and Happen Bank rebates fees charged by other ATM owners without a limit. ACH transfers, wires and mobile check deposit are free. Daily ATM and transfer limits depend on your customer tier.

Who it is best for

  • Savers who add money every month anyway
  • Anyone who wants ATM access to their savings

  • People parking a lump sum with no monthly deposits; Peak Bank pays its full rate with no rules
  • Anyone who needs phone support on Sundays

How we rated it

LevelUp Savings scores 4.6 out of 5. It scores near the top on both rate measures, fees and its app, and well on access thanks to the ATM card. It loses a little for the monthly deposit rule. Read the full methodology.
