What to check before you open
- The minimum to earn the APY. CFG needs $1,000 every day; drop below and you pay a $10 fee.
- How you get money out. Some money market accounts give you checks and a debit card; others, like CFG’s, only allow transfers, with daily limits.
- Who holds your money. Zynlo and Vio are divisions of larger banks. Deposits at the division and the parent bank share one FDIC limit. If you hold more than that, see how to insure more than $250,000.
- Money market account vs. money market fund. A money market fund at a brokerage is an investment and is not FDIC insured. Every account on this page is a bank deposit.
