Details from Bluevine’s website and its Sep 28, 2026 announcement, checked Oct 3, 2026.

Is Bluevine a bank?

No. Bluevine is a financial technology company. Its business checking accounts are provided by Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC, an FDIC insured bank based in Everett, Washington. You manage the account in Bluevine’s app and website, and the money itself sits at the bank and its program banks.

This setup is common among business fintechs, including Relay and Found. It is safe as long as the bank partner is FDIC insured and records are kept properly, which is what FDIC pass through insurance depends on.

Is my money safe with Bluevine?

Yes, within the limits of FDIC insurance. Bluevine says accounts are insured up to $3 million per depositor. It gets there by spreading balances across several FDIC insured program banks, each covering the standard $250,000.

Two points to understand:

  • FDIC insurance covers bank failure, not the failure of Bluevine itself. Pass through coverage applies when certain conditions are met, mainly that the bank’s records show whose money is whose.
  • Check your total at each bank. If your business also banks directly with one of Bluevine’s program banks, those balances count toward the same $250,000 limit at that bank.

The 2024 collapse of Synapse, a middleware firm used by some fintech apps, left customers of those apps temporarily unable to reach their money. Bluevine was not part of that, and its banking services come directly through Coastal Community Bank. It is still a good reason to keep records of your balances and to avoid holding more than you need in any single fintech account.

What does the Valley Bank acquisition mean?

On September 28, 2026, Valley National Bancorp, the parent of Valley Bank, announced a deal to buy Bluevine for about $340 million. Valley is a regional bank founded in 1927 with over $66 billion in assets and more than 220 branches and offices. The deal is expected to close in early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.

Bluevine’s customer FAQ says nothing changes today:

  • Your account and routing numbers stay the same
  • Your debit and credit cards stay the same
  • Your pricing, rates and terms stay the same
  • Your FDIC coverage and APY stay the same

After closing, Bluevine says customers may gain access to Valley’s branches, Zelle and more credit products. For a small business owner, being owned by an established bank is generally a plus for stability. The main thing to watch is whether pricing or interest rates change after the deal closes. We will update this page and our Bluevine review when that happens.

How much interest does Bluevine pay?

PlanMonthly feeAPYBalance that earns interest
Standard$01.30%Up to $250,000, with $500 in monthly debit card spend or $2,500 in monthly customer payments
Plus$30, can be waived1.75%Up to $250,000
Premier$95, can be waived3.0%All balances

Plus and Premier APYs from Bluevine’s website, checked Oct 3, 2026. Rates are variable.

On the free Standard plan, a business keeping $30,000 in checking and meeting the activity goal would earn about $390 a year. Miss the goal in a month and you earn nothing on that month’s balance.

What fees does Bluevine charge?

Bluevine charges no monthly fee on Standard, no overdraft fees, no minimum balance and no fees on incoming wires, standard ACH or in network ATMs. It also has no limit on transactions. You will pay for some services, including outgoing wires, international payments and cash deposits made through retail partners. Check Bluevine’s current fee schedule if you send wires or deposit cash often.

What do customers get besides interest?

  • Bill pay by ACH, check and domestic or international wire
  • Invoicing, payment links and in person Tap to Pay
  • Sub accounts, each with its own debit card and spending limits
  • Separate logins for team members and your accountant
  • Mobile check deposit

Bluevine also offers a line of credit, issued by Celtic Bank and subject to credit approval.

Who is Bluevine best for?

  • Good fit: online and service businesses that keep a meaningful balance in checking, spend $500 a month on the debit card or take $2,500 in customer payments, and rarely handle cash.
  • Not ideal: cash heavy businesses, since cash deposits carry a fee, and anyone who needs a branch today.
